Al Boum Photo got his season off to the perfect start at Tramore today and with the details on his winning return in the Savills Chase.

Willie Mullin’s charge made it three Savills Chase victories in a row when the 2/9f beat Acapella Bourgeois at Tramore today with Paul Townend on board again.

Townend gave the winner a confident ride and he picked off Acapella Bourgeois before the last to win by 19 lengths.

The nine-year-old looked as good as ever today, and while stiffer tests lie ahead for him, this was a strongly run race on very testing ground and it’s almost certain that Al Boum Photo will head straight to Cheltenham for a crack at the Gold Cup, a race he’s won for the last two years.

Al Boum Photo maintained the incredible strike rate of Willie Mullins & Paul Townend which stands at just over 50% for the last three weeks.

It was a 20th winner since St. Stephen’s Day (26 December) for Mullins and number 12 for Townend in the same period.

Also on New Year’s Day

Elsewhere, Mullins and Townend took the David Flynn Construction Maiden Hurdle to get racing underway for New Year’s Day in Waterford.

Rachel Blackmore for Henry de Bromhead lead Minnella Escape home ahead of Townend on board Gorki D’airy in the third race of the day.
