In a surprising turn of events, Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere has announced he will not continue as the manager of the Kilkenny Senior Camogie team for the upcoming season. Cleere, who took the reins last year, informed the Kilkenny Camogie Board of his decision this Wednesday afternoon.

In a joint statement with Kilkenny Camogie, Cleere expressed his immense pride in managing his home county but cited family and work commitments as the reasons for his decision:

“I am extremely privileged and proud to have been given the opportunity to manage my own county. Unfortunately, due to family and work commitments, I am not in a position to be able to give the necessary 100% commitment required to manage the team for the coming year. As a result, and after careful consideration, I have decided to step down as manager of the Kilkenny Senior Camogie team. I would like to sincerely thank all of the players for the work that they have done and the effort levels that they have put in over the last year. It’s my firm belief that the talent is there for Kilkenny to bring home the O’Duffy Cup in the near future.”

Cleere also took the opportunity to thank his backroom team and Kilkenny Camogie officials for their unwavering support:

“I’d like to express a massive thanks to John (O’Neill), Michael (Farrell), PJ (Ryan), and all of my backroom team as well as county chairperson Theresa Aylward, secretary Theresa Hunston, and treasurer Eoghan Cooney for their unwavering support during the last year. And finally, I want to wish all involved with Kilkenny Camogie every success into the future. Kilkenny Abú 🖤🧡”

The Kilkenny Camogie County Board has expressed gratitude for Cleere’s dedication and hard work over the past year. In their statement, they praised his commitment to the well-being of the players and his positive influence on the team. The Board extended their best wishes to Cleere for his future endeavors and thanked him for his significant contributions to Kilkenny Camogie.
