Carlow fell at the first hurdle in the opening fixture of the 2016 Allianz National Football League, Antrim running out 1-12 to 0-10 victors.
It was a tightly contested first half, one that saw an unfortunate injury to Tinryland’s Paul Broderick and also a crucial goal for Antrim’s Kevin Niblock (St. Gall’s) heading towards half time as Antrim went into the break trailing by 2 points on a 1-04 to 0-05 scoreline.
The visitors edged further ahead after the restart with a succession of quick points and with errors starting to creep into Carlow’s game, it was a game the home side were left chasing across the second half.
Red cards for both sides capped a frustrating day for Carlow who travel to London in round 2 of the league where 2 points will be a must.
We’ll have full reports and reaction on Sunday’s sports roundup from 6pm on air and right across the day on Monday with a look back on The Way It Is from 6.30pm Monday evening.
