The accolades keep coming for Kilkenny Storm.
This past weekend saw the Inline Hockey Ireland playoffs take place, with the Kilkenny club fielding U13, U15, U18 and Elite teams.
Having already seen their U13 and U18 sides finish as league champions, they moved on to secure their respective playoff crowns too for the 2022 season while the U15 and Elite teams picked up third-placed bronze for their finishes over the weekend.
Storm’s 15’s had a 4-2 win over Armagh Stars to seal third place in their playoffs, Cork Wolfpack taking top honours there with a 7-4 win over Flying Ducks. The U18 decider turned into a nail-biter with Kilkenny coming out 6-5 winners in overtime against the Chiefs while the U13s finished their unbeaten season with a 2-0 win over Cork Wolfpack.
Perkele Pelicans claimed this year’s Elite playoff title with a 6-3 win over the Rebels, Kilkenny Storm collecting third place with a 5-3 win over Bangor Chiefs.
MVP awards were handed out to Ronan Quinlan (U13) and Jamie O’Brien (U18) while All-Stars were picked up by Hallie Cummins (U15), Matthew Quinlan and Mikita Chuhunou (U18) and Alec Young (Elite) while Chuhunou – starting his senior career at just 15 years old – can claim the honour of being the youngest ever Elite goalkeeper, picking up nominations for the Spirit of Hockey and Junior Player of the Year awards.
