BT is the place to be for all the 10 fixtures this week! The Premier league is relentless at the moment, with games on nearly everyday it seems, all though we are not complaining mind you! Check out what time all the action kicks off , who is playing who and what their form is like heading into matchday 20 in our handy guide below.
Tuesday 26th January
18:00 Crystal Palace v West Ham United
The two London sides are in vastly different form with West Ham on a five match winning streak in all competitions, while Palace have only one win in eight attempts. If The Hammers secure their fourth consecutive win in the league, it will see them leapfrog into the top four, which will be for the first time since 1986 they occupied a similar position in the latter half of a season. Palace on the other hand are suffering a goal drought at the moment, having failing to score in their last three games. New loan signing Jean-Philippe Mateta who found the back of the net seven times in 15 Bundesligue games for Mainz may be inline to start while Christian Benteke is apparently in talks to join West Brom. West Ham came out on top in both fixtures last year, but the two sides recently drew in December. David Moyes will hope to carry current momentum from his last few games to Selhurst Park, and should have enough to see off The Eagles.
18:00 Newcastle United v Leeds United
Victory. Victory. Where art thou victory? Both sides will be asking themselves that as neither have registered a win in atall 2021. Newcastle are actually winless in ten matches, and funnily enough the first match that started this streak was also against Leeds. Yes the two sides met just over a month ago with The Whites besting The Magpies five goals to two. This time they travel to St. James Park where sentiment towards Steve Bruce is very very low. Its a must win for the Geordie manager as his side are currently 16th in the table. Newcastle summer signing Callum Wilson has not scored in the Premier League since the 19th of December and the other summer addition Jeff Hendrick is the only man other than Wilson to have managed more than one goal this season – and he has just two. Due to this a conservative approach from Newcastle may be adopted, but that is exactly what Leeds would want.
20:15 Southampton v Arsenal
Only three days have passed since these two sides met in the FA Cup at the weekend. Obviously the Saints matched on into the next round after a solitary goal separated the two sides. Arsenal rested a few players that day, so signs point to them wanting the three points here more. Mikel Arteta has managed to turn fortunes around for the Gunnars with 13 points from their last five games, so from a league perspective Arsenal are flying high. Ralph Hassenhuthel has Southampton playing hot and cold, with just one victory in their last six Premier League outings, with that run starting with a one all draw against Arsenal in December. Southampton are two points ahead of Arsenal in tenth place and are defensively sound at home, the Gunnars will be without striker Aubamayang, so expect a tight affair.
20:15 West Bromwich Albion v Manchester City
Sam Allardyce will be hoping he can at least repeat his predecessor , Slavan Bilic, last game in charge of West Brom and manage a point against Man City. City have conceded just two goals in ten Premier League games, so will be tough to break down, but one of those goals was scored by The Baggies so anything can happen. West Brom are in a relegation dog fight and will be feeling backed into a corner, while City are in amazing form and are marching towards another title. Kevin De Bruyne is ruled out out of contention for the next few weeks and they will be still missing Sergio Aguero but they have class in every department so they will be expecting the full three points this time around.
Wednesday 27th January
18:00 Burnley v Aston Villa
Burnley are coming off a victory over Liverpool which ended tThe Reds unbeaten home record. In the process Sean Dyche has created some breathing room for himself as his side are seven points clear of the drop zone. Of course things in the Premier League can change quickly, just ask a Newcastle fan, who watched their side lose in last weekends only Premier League game against who? Why it was Aston Villa of course. The Villians have not had the best 2021, but after that win they find themselves just five points off Liverpool with two games in hand. If Villa boss Dean Smith has European aspirations he needs to find a way to be beat his Claret and Blue counterpart. Expect a tense affair between two sides that have 16 clean sheets between them, which includes a nil all draw between both sides in December
18:00 Chelsea v Wolverhampton Wanderers
Thomas Tuchel will be eagerly watching this game with the expectation being that he shall take over the reigns at Chelsea in the coming days. Talk before this game will be dominated by the departure of Chelsea club legend Frank Lampard. Was it right, was it wrong? Only time will tell, but Chelsea have been abysmal by their standards in the last seven weeks. Only seven points from a possible 24 seen The Blues drop from top spot in December to mid table. Will the team now suddenly find the will to move without having Lampard directing the traffic? Facing them is another team who have been dreadful in recent times, by their standards. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are without a win in their last six Premier League games, with the last time they have picked up the full three points being against Frank Lampards Chelsea side in a two one victory.
19:30 Brighton and Hove Albion v Fulham
Both sides are notorious for an auld draw. Brighton have registered eight draws in total while Fulham have drawn six games and most recently went on a five game run of draws before that was ended at the hands of Manchester United. The last time these two sides met was , naturally , draw . In the first half neither side seemed willing to give an inch despite both fighting for their survival . The second half was a much more livelier affair where goals were ruled out due to VAR and balls hitting the crossbar. With Brighton five points clear of 18th placed Fulham, Scott Parker needs to take this opportunity to reduce that deficit .
20:15 Everton v Leicester City
It will be interesting to see how Leicester maintain their title challenge without the goals of Jamie Vardy . Although last time these side met, he Vardy did not really have an impact on the game. Carlo Ancellotti came away with three points and a two goal victory last month. Since then though The Foxes have won four and drawn two of their six league games. Everton have won three from four and sit six points behind third placed Leicester , while also having two games in hand.
20:15 Manchester United v Sheffield United
For now it is the top of the table versus the bottom of the table. That may all change depending on Man City getting a result against West Brom on Tuesday , however it wont change the mind set of either team. Both are striving for something, one for a title and one for survival. The Blades lost last time out against The Red Devils by conceding three and scoring two, however that team was low on confidence. Sheffield have won three from their last four games in all competitions but will be without Irish international John Egan, who has been ever present this season. Man United are also in flying form and will be gunning for three points after their magnificent victory over rivals Liverpool last time out.
Thursday 28th January
20:00 Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool
The last fixture of matchday 20 sees Jose Mourinho go up against Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool fans will take solace in the fact that Mo Salah found the net twice against Man United in the FA Cup, so hopefully he can carry that form down to London with him. Klopp has only lost to Mourinho twive in twelve attempts, with the German boasting six victories. Liverpool in general have not lost to Spurs since October 2017, winning six and drawing one. However as we seen against Burnley recently, records are made to be broken. Jose will look to take advantage of Liverpools defensive fratalities, impacted midfield and barren premier league scoring forwards. This is one of the most interesting ties of the week and rightfully has its place as the Main Event of all the games.
