PREVIEW: Turlough O’Briens men head for Leitrim

After last weekends League salvaging win over Limerick, Carlow Senior Footballers are in Carrick on Shannon this Sunday for their next Division 4 clash against Leitrim at 2pm.

The victory over Limerick last week may have been a surprise to many and I have to admit I thought Limerick would win, but for those close to the camp this win was no shock at all.

Like last year Carlow have been doing things the hard way in Division 4 and this time twelve months ago they actually beat Leitrim in a game that was also played at Carrick On Shannon.

With three points from a possible six, this game is also a must win and to be honest it’s almost knockout football to a certain extent in order to achieve promotion from the Division.

That factor can be a help or a hindrance depending on what way you approach the situation but what it should do is sharpen the minds for the remainder of the campaign.

Leitrim have actually lost twice in the competition already, the first of those being a two point defeat to Wexford, while Westmeath inflicted a 2-18 to 1-9 beating on them.

So they too need to go all out for victory here.

It may seem like a cliche but it is always difficult to win in Carrick On Shannon.

I went against Carlow last week, but I am hoping that last weeks win will provide a platform for Turlough O’Brien’s men to build on, and yes I know I said that after the Westmeath result too, but they should have the impetus to go on and take home two valuable league points this Sunday.

Verdict: Carlow
