The Garda-led Project Ains Nyuk continues in Kilkenny this evening.
Launched earlier this year with the aiming of identifying more leaders within the Traveller community in Kilkenny, the project is based around a soccer tournament with games hosted by Freebooters in the city.
As part of the initiative, two soccer teams have spawned, one from St. Mary’s with the other from St. Catherine’s.
Sergeant David Gorman in Kilkenny outlined the latest to Scoreline on Thursday.
“We have games again this evening between 5 and 6pm at Freebooters (Fairgreen)”, says Gorman.
Teams from host club Freebooters and city-rivals Evergreen will compete against a team from St. Catherine’s.
“This will be the first evening that the team from St. Catherine’s grace the pitch in a competitive game in the tournament. This evening’s games are following last week’s game between St Mary’s and Freebooters which turned out to be a high-scoring classic with the St Mary’s team coming out on top by a single goal in a 29-goal thriller.”
“The enthusiasm on display by the St Catherine’s outfit during last week’s training session was a joy to watch and I’m expecting the lads to be well up for their games this evening.”
Next up sees the return of St. Mary’s in action on Thursday 21 April before the tournament concludes on Thursday 28 April.
