The last of the Carlow senior football league titles have been won, just in time for the beginning of the club championships this Friday night.
Rathvilly and Naomh Eoin braved the heat on Saturday evening to step out in Netwatch Cullen Park in what proved to be a tight encounter.
Diego Dunne got Naomh Eoin off to a dream start, finding the back of the net with just 15 seconds on the clock. Rathvilly would take seven minutes to level things up, picking off their scores and by the time the water break hit, Myshall were back in front, 1-03 to 0-05.
Despite having a two-point lead at half-time, a couple of Jack Nolan frees gave Rathvilly the lead for the first time in the game by the second-half water break, 0-10 to 1-06.
Level with 60 seconds of normal time to play, a Larry Farrell point in the 60th minute from an ‘exceptional’ mark – and his fourth score of the game – secured the title for Rathvilly by the slimmest of margins.
Final score, Rathvilly 0-13, Naomh Eoin 1-09.
The game finally wraps up all the football league action in Carlow with the county’s club football championships set to get underway this Friday.
