There was disappointment on Friday night in Dublin’s 3 Arena for Kilkenny man Mick ‘Basher’ Brennan.
Facing Northern Ireland’s Decky ‘The Diamond’ Dalton on the preliminary fight card for BAMMA 30, it was Dalton who walked away with the win.
Brennan was quick out of the gate in round one, landing strongly in the early exchanges with a mixture of overhand punches and short inside leg kicks.
Missing out on a first takedown attempt, ‘Basher’ took the fight to the ground late in the round with the technical ability of both fighters coming to the fore with reversal after reversal after reversal.
A highly charged first round continued into the second, and with the shots getting heavier, ‘The Diamond’ landed a heavy knee to Brennan’s head just over 1:10 into the round.
That knee was enough to warrant a medical stoppage following consultation with the ringside doctor and referee.
The result sends Dalton to 7-3 and puts a three fight losing streak behind him. Brennan moves out to 4-8 with the stoppage marking a fifth defeat in a row and his second under the BAMMA banner.
Story developing.
