Kilkenny hurler Richie Hogan says he was amazed to be given a red card by referee James Owens for a challenge on Tipperary’s Cathal Barrett in last Sunday’s All Ireland senior final.

Hogan intends to continue in the inter county game.

The danesfort man stressed that he didn’t want to take away from Tipperary’s win, but disputed claims that he elbowed Barrett.

Meanwhile Former Kilkenny Senior Hurling Goalkeeper Michael Walsh says that the sending off was an awful blow to him especially after the frustration he had with injuries.

Michael says that Richie’s return to competitive action during the Championship was a turning point in helping Kilkenny get to the final.

He said “I just wished in the spirit of the game that he had been left on. It’s an awful blow for the chap himself, we are all talking, I know people are in the public eye or whatever but it’s an awful blow for the chap himself, he has had a frustrating year with injuries, he had just come back and done very very well, and as a matter of fact I would have said it was a turning point, him coming back into the team that Kilkenny got to the Final and then it ends up like that”.

“It’s an awful thing for the chap himself and it’s just a pity that it had to happen and it’s not taking away from Tipperary’s victory”.
