Kilkenny’s return to the Lidl Ladies National Leagues ended in a heavy defeat to last year’s Division 4 finalists Limerick on Sunday, it’s more about the journey than the result.
4-13 to 0-2 is how it finished with Limerick’s Andrea O’Sullivan hitting a brace in the first half while Kilkenny were kept scoreless in the second. The scoring could have been higher for the Munster side too as they finished with 18 wides but for Kilkenny, it was always about getting back to the big time following their withdrawal from the league following the 2019 campaign.
“Kilkenny are back on the national LGFA map after fielding a team today in the Lidl NFL after an absence of three years”, said Kilkenny LGFA via social media.
“It was never about the score line for these players…it was a starting point to build on over the coming months and years.”
“No one is under the illusion that this is going to be easy. Rome wasn’t built in a day and this is only the start of the building blocks for Kilkenny’s adult squad”, Kilkenny manager John Gorey said heading into Sunday’s league fixture.
Kilkenny are on the road this weekend, taking on Leitrim at 2pm.
