Scoreline's Morning Report

The Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship enters the knockout stages this weekend with all of those games live on KCLR.

At half past 4 on Saturday, we’ll be in Callan for the relegation semi-final clash between Ballyhale Shamrocks and Danesfort.

Sunday begins with the meeting of Graigue Ballycallan and Clara in the first round.

Throw-in at UPMC Nowlan Park is 1 o’clock and speaking to KCLR ahead of the game, Graigue Ballycallan captain Tommy Ronan described how the team have improved from last year when they only won one game.

The second game of the day in UPMC Nowlan Park sees Tullaroan face Bennettsbridge at 3 pm.

Our final match of the weekend is at 5 o’clock on Sunday as Erin’s Own and Mullinavat face off in Danesfort in the other relegation semi-final.

You can get a rundown on KCLR’s Kilkenny Hurling podcast

In the seventh episode, we pick our Senior Team of the League and our Intermediate Team of the Week.

We also look ahead to the first round of the senior championship and the intermediate quarter-finals as well as asking the question – are 5 pm throw-ins too late?

The final game of the JJ Kavanagh and Sons Junior Hurling League took place last night

Slieverue defeated John Lockes on a scoreline of 4-22 to 1-15.

While in the Junior Hurling Championship Preliminary First Round Shamrocks defeated Graigue Ballycallan by a single point on a scoreline of 1-13 to 15 points.

In Carlows Junior Football ‘C’ Championship, there are five games taking place across the county starting from half seven.

There is also an Under 15 football final taking place from 6:30 pm as Tinryland goes up against Eire Og.

Mickey Harte has been handed a three-year term in charge of the Derry senior footballers.

The former Tyrone boss had his appointment ratified last night, with Gavin Devlin also set to be part of the management team.

The pair also combined to lead the Louth footballers over the last three seasons.

Soccer

Liam Scales featured for Celtic as they lost 2-nil to Feyenoord in Group E of the Champions League last night.

The Scottish champions finished with nine men, following second-half red cards for Gustaf Lagerbielke and Odin Holm.

Elsewhere, Manchester City bounced back from a 1-nil half-time deficit to beat Red Star Belgrade 3-1 at the Etihad in Group G and Newcastle opened their Group F campaign with a nil-all draw with AC Milan at the San Siro.

Manchester United make their Champions League return tonight. Erik ten Hag’s side are in Germany for a meeting with Bayern Munich in Group A.

Arsenal get their campaign underway in Group B with a home fixture against PSV. Both games kick off at 8 p.m.

Locally there was one game last night in Carlow in the form of the Martin Mullins Memorial Cup 2023.

Ballymurphy Celtic got the better of Hannover Harps on penalties after a 3-3 draw.

They now go up against fellow Division 3 side Bagenalstown in the final.

Another big shock in the Mullins cup tonight as division 3 side Ballymurphy beat Hanover in the semi final where they will now join division 3 Bagenalstown in the final making it first time in history two sided from lowest league play the Mullins final #cupshock
