Seanie Maguire has received his first senior international call-up, the Kilkenny native named in Martin O’Neill’s provisional 39-man squad for next month’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Serbia.

Maguire is still the top scorer in this season’s SSE Airtricity League with 20 goals after his spell at Cork City before a recent move to Preston North End ahead of the start of the English championship season. Maguire has been capped up to U21 level.

Also included in the Irish squad are the uncapped duo of Matt Doherty and Liam Kelly, while Maguire’s teammate Greg Cunningham has also been recalled.

Cunningham made four Irish appearances back in 2013.

There are also recalls for the likes of Ciaran Clark, James McCarthy, David Meyler, Shane Long and Kevin Doyle, who all missed the summer internationals.

Ireland travel to Georgia for Group D meeting on Saturday 2nd September, before they welcome group leaders Serbia to the Aviva three days later.

The players will report into camp on Monday, August 28, where O’Neill will trim the panel ahead of training at the FAI National Training Centre. The squad will depart for Tbilisi on Thursday, August 31 and return to Dublin on September 3.

Tickets for the home game against Serbia at Aviva Stadium on Tuesday, September 5 are still available via Ticketmaster.ie
