Leinster head coach Leo Cullen has confirmed Tullow native Sean O’Brien underwent surgery today.
At time of writing it is not yet known the extent of the procedure, or what O’Brien’s timeline to return to active duty is.
O’Brien was withdrawn during Leinster’s Pro 14 defeat at the hands of Benetton last weekend and was due to have his injury assessed ahead of tomorrow’s game.
With Cullen speaking at the team announcement for tomorrow’s semi-final, he revealed the Number 7 managed to get an appointment with a surgeon this morning and underwent a procedure.
“Sean has been ruled out after his 40 minutes (against Benetton)”, said Cullen on Friday morning.
“He hasn’t come through this week. He’s had a procedure done on his shoulder today. He was in with his surgeon this morning.”
“We’ll have a report out in due course, I don’t have the full details myself yet.”
When asked if O’Brien was every actually in the running for tomorrow’s game, Cullen replied “he went to see the specialist during the week and he got booked in for a slot today. We’ll find out the full extent of that over the next few days.”
