The 12th World Cadet, Junior and Senior Championships and World Cup for Children take place in Belgrade, Serbia, this weekend under the banner of the World Karate Confederation.
Among those heading to the Sport Center Novi Beograd will be Askea Karate Club brothers Eoghan and Oisin Chelmiah along with Ballinabranna Karate Club’s Jasmine Byrne.
In a post to Facebook before taking off for Serbia, Eoghan Chelmiah says “These last few months I’ve worked on adding in a lot more aspects to my game, constantly improving my weaker areas and bringing my stronger areas to a new level” as he sets off with the aim of retaining the gold he took in the Sanbon Junior 18-20Y Male White-Black-68 at last year’s championships in Rimini, Italy.
Jasmine Byrne has also taken top honours on the European stage previously, securing a gold medal at last year’s IKU European Championships in Romania.
With the local group departing today, reigstration and preparation begins in Belgrade on Friday morning ahead of this year’s WKC Congress. The championships get underway from 9am on Saturday morning continuing through Saturday and Sunday.
You can get updates of their progress on Scoreline this Saturday and Sunday on KCLR.
