Adding to the eight places Ballyhale Shamrocks secured on this year’s AIB GAA Club Hurling Team of the Year, former All-Ireland winning captain Joey Holden has been named 2022’s club hurler of the year.

In the process, Holden pipped clubmate Adrian Mullen along with Ballygunner shot-stopper Stephen O’Keeffe to the top individual honour.

The overall player award on the hurling and football front were announced at a special event in Croke Park last night. Both Holden and Colin Fennelly, also included in the team of the year, were absent having resumed travels in the wake of their Club All-Ireland final victory earlier this year.

Kilmacud Crokes’ Shane Cunningham was named overall AIB GAA Club Football Player of the Year.

Last night’s awards will no doubt be part of the celebrations today at the Holden Plant Rentals Race Day with Shamrocks hosting their 50th-anniversary dinner dance and a presentation of their latest haul of All-Ireland medals. Those festivities are underway today (Saturday) from 2pm at Gowran Park in Kilkenny.
