It’s the matchup the hurling world has been waiting for, ever since Henry Shefflin was announced as manager of the Galway senior hurlers.

With next summer’s provincial fixtures drawn on Saturday, Kilkenny will hit the road to Pearse Stadium on the May bank holiday weekend for a mouth-watering clash with the Tribesman.

There’s no doubt the pleasantries and respect will be there but the result could have big implications on the outlook of the hurling summer for both counties.

The Cats begin the defence of their Leinster crown with a trip to Cusack Park to face Westmeath on the weekend of 16/17 April.

That’s followed by the visit of Laois to Nowlan Park (23/24 April) before the third-round clash with Galway over the May bank holiday weekend.

Brian Cody’s side round out their Leinster group stage will a trip to Dublin on 14/15 May before wrapping up with a home clash with Wexford the following weekend.

The 2022 Leinster senior hurling final will be held on Saturday 5 June
