“1970 was the last time wexford did the treble and that wasn’t gonna happen again on my watch”.
Those were the words of Kilkenny u20 captain, Evan Shefflin, after Kilkennys Bord Gais Energy Leinster victory last night. The Cats came out on top with a score of 1-17 to Wexford’s 0-18.
A nephew of one of the greatest hurlers of his generation, if not of all time, Henry’s hunger and desire seems to be hereditary. Evan ran riot scoring an impressive 1-02 from midfield, but more crucially scored the goal in the first half, to give Kilkenny some breathing space.
Kilkenny battled hard in what was a dogged fight with some tough condition’s, but Evan was quick to point to Wexford’s performance as a reason for the close game. Speaking with KCLR after the game the midfielder said
“Wexford made it difficult on us, we knew coming down it was going to be an unreal test, to be honest I was amazed, there workrate was top class. They made it difficult but delighted to get the win, hurling is about winning, obviously enjoying it to but the main aim is to win”
