If you’re in Kilkenny today and looking for some midterm fun, there’s an eight race card at Gowran Park today.

Not only that, but you can grab a free bus from the gates of Kilkenny Castle at 2.40pm to get you out in time for the first race, going to post at 3.40pm.

Gowran Park’s Eddie Scally has been filling Scoreline in on the details.

“Thankfully, after a really couple of miserable days, the weather has picked up and it looks like it’s going to be a nice evening here at the track”, says Scally.

“The going at the moment is yielding soft in places. We had 16mm of rain yesterday so that will slow the ground right down. It’s a high class card here today, the first race is only a four-runner but it’s a really select field and the Aidan O’Brien’ Prettiest looks like it will go off favourite in that race and will probably take up a favourite’s chance.”

“There’s local interest of course in the third, the 4.50pm, we’ve got the Andrew Slattery-trained Smooth Tom who’s ridden by Andrew Slattery Jr and is owned locally by Margaret O’Rourke. That horse will have a really, really good chance as well.”

“Later again in the 5.20pm, Jim Bolger runs his horse Level Pitch. That horse ran last week in Gowran and finished third after coming from way back in the pace just to be beaten by a neck into third. Today Kevin Manning is in the plate and the horse is stepping up a furlong in trip so again has a really, really good chance.”

“It’s a really good, competitive card, all day with eight races. The last will be going to post at 7.20pm.”

Grab tickets in advance at GowranPark.ie or on the gate from this afternoon.
