In the end, they did it with a game to spare.

St. Canice’s have been crowned the KCLR Scoreline.ie Division 1 winners in the Kilkenny & District League, building on the success of their Division 2 title last year. The prize ultimately is a spot in the St. Canice’s Credit Union Premier Division for next season and at the top table in soccer in Kilkenny. For a side that started together in 2020 in Division 3, that’s fair going.

It’s a second win in as many months for St. Canice’s over Ormonde Villa, their first meeting at Garringreen in February ending 4-1 before putting sealing last night’s 4-0 win at the Watershed.

St. Canice’s have one game left to play in the league this season when they play Evergreen B at the Waterbarracks this Sunday (16 April) at 11am. At the same time, Evergreen A will host Bridge United A at the Kells Road knowing a win would send them three points clear of Freebooters at the top of the St. Canice’s Credit Union Premier Division. Due to ongoing cup commitments, a Premier Division winner may not be known until May.

Evergreen C pipped Castlewarren to the Division 2 title last weekend thanks to a 4-0 win over Tullaroan.
