St Kierans College are once again the Leinster Senior A Schools Hurling Champions.
They defeated their rivals Kilkenny CBS in a tense encounter at Nowlan Park yesterday.
It was even for almost the entire game right up until the final attack where Kierans availed of a fortuitous goal from Sean Ryan.
In the end it finished St Kierans 1-14, Kilkenny CBS 13 points and Speaking to KCLR after the game, Kierans selector and Kilkenny panelist Michael Walsh said they were not thinking about any 4-in-a-row All-Ireland bid.
Speaking after yesterday’s Leinster Colleges Final victory over CBS, Michael says a number of the squad are newcomers.
“Look to be honest today was the end of our year as far as we are concerned and whatever happens now, we will move on again and look at it as a fresh start again from there, but yeah we are just delighted to be moving on.
“In terms of 4s or 3s or any of that, it’s just one for us. We are just going to win with this group. I think I said it before there that a lot of the lads haven’t been involved before so for them, it’s just one and that’s all that matters to them really” Walsh said.
Captain Adrian Mullen was the star man for Kieran’s after landing six points from play and with Tommy Ronan, Michael Carey and Martin Keoghan steady at the back, this provided the platform for the victory.
CBS captain Niall Brassil led by example on the other side and he nailed three points from play in the first half alone.
Sean Boyd was also effective with an identical tally from play while goalkeeper Ben Maher nailed two long range frees and was by no means at fault for this loss as the sun unfortunately got in his eyes late on and he played excellently throughout.
You get the impression that these two might meet again in the All Ireland Series.
