The first-ever draw for the GAA’s Tailteann Cup has been made and Carlow have avoided the preliminary round pairings.

With nine teams in the mix for the competition’s southern section, two preliminary fixtures were required to narrow the field. New York, added to the southern section last week, are already assured of a place in this year’s quarter-finals.

Preliminary games get underway this coming weekend with times and dates to be confirmed, with first-round games set for 28/29 May.

The first team out in each draw will have home advantage. Find out more about the competition here.

Tailteann Cup Preliminary Round 21/22 May

  • Wexford v Offaly
  • Wicklow v Waterford

Tailteann Cup First Round: Southern Section

  • Wexford/Offaly v Wicklow/Waterford
  • Carlow v Tipperary
  • Laois v Westmeath

Tailteann Cup First Round: Northern Section

  • Longford v Fermanagh
  • Leitrim v Antrim
  • Sligo v London
  • Cavan v Down

Draws for the quarter-finals, due to take place on 4/5 June, will take place immediately after first round fixtures. The quarter-finals will remain within the northern/southern sections with the semi-finals moving to an open draw.

This year’s Tailteann Cup final is scheduled for Saturday 9 July at Croke Park.
