In 2009 an award was created by FIFA,the purpose? To reward the “most beautiful” goal of the calendar year. Named after Real Madrid and Hungary striker Ferenc Puskás, the coveted prise has seen many worthy victors over the years.

This year was no different! Here are the 2020 nominees in full :

AND THE WINNER IS …….

Spurs star man Heung Min Son has been crowned the winner for his solo run against Burnley. In the process holding off fierce competition (just like he did the Burnley defence) from Luiz Suarez and Giorgian De Arrascaeta. Check the goal out below!

Son is in great company, as there have been some wonder strikes since the awards inception. Ireland were only ever represented in the nominees the once, with Stephanie Roche coming second to James Rodriguez’s strike in the 2014 world cup
