The later throw-in for the Kilkenny county finals on Sunday was the contest between Glenmore and St. Lachtains for the Kilkenny intermediate crown.
A huge second-half performance from Glenmore ensured the title went to the south of Kilkenny after defeating the Freshford side 3-19 to 2-09.
Kilkenny intercounty star and proud Glenmore man Eoin Murphy said it was the greatest day of his life.
“The best day of my life, to be honest, it’s incredible now,” said Eoin.
“In 2005, I remember being over in the old stand roaring my eyes out when Glenmore got relegated, this is the best day, unbelievable”.
“I don’t want to be harping on about a small parish, but we are reasonably small in comparison to some others, but we have top-class facilities down there and that’s all a serious community effort”.
“The boys coming up with a great drive out of them, that helps hugely, this is just unbelievable”.
