LISTEN – Eddie Brennan speaks to KCLR after Kilkenny U21 defeat to Westmeath

Eddie Brennan

Kilkenny under 21 Manager Eddie Brennan says that Limerick unleashed all the hurt of the 2014 All Ireland Minor Final loss in Saturdays under 21 Final.

Kilkenny went down to Limerick by 17 points to 11 at Semple Stadium and speaking to KCLR, Eddie says that Limerick were deserving winners .

“Limerick were, hungry, strong in the tackle and although you hate admitting it the hungrier team won.

“They talked so much about 2014 and to be fair they unleashed that hurt,” he said.

Eddie paid tribute to his panel for the effort they put in this year.

“I’d still be fierce proud of our lads, but little things just didn’t go our way. To be fair, Limerick picked the wind and got a great foothold in the match.

“I’d have to say to a man I would be very proud of all the lads, I think our backs were under massive pressure from the word go and they did so well as a unit.

“Liam Blanchfield I thought gave every ounce of his body. The hard thing was picking five lads to come in off the bench but everyone kept grinding and grinding.

“Blanch led this bunch of players along with Conor Delaney and Jason Cleere, I laugh at people that criticise players but I have to salute every single one of those lads.

“I hope the lads stick together going forward and take the rough with the smooth going forward,” Eddie said.

He concluded by saying the next few months will be tough but that the lads will have to stay resilient and says that the game might just kick start some of his players futures.
