The IRFU has confirmed it is banning transgender women from playing women’s contact rugby.
The union has amended its gender participation policy despite the issue only affecting two registered players in the entire country.
The IRFU claims they’ll continue to be “inclusive as they can be” and the decision was made in line with World Rugby guidance
The decision has since been described as “reactionary”.
Trans Equality Together says the move sends the message that the trans community is not welcome in rugby.

The sentiment was also shared by Limericks’ newest Rugby club, Limerick’s Sarsfields RFC who has said they “vehemently” oppose “the IRFU’s changes to their policy”.
