Thomastown United manager Davy Foley says maintaining and strengthening the squad is the only way that country clubs like themselves and Highview Athletic can compete with the City clubs.

Speaking to KCLR ahead of todays Pat Maher Shield Final, Davy says that’s what’s required to compete with the top teams in the County.

He said “Well, they (Evergreen) are top of the League this year, and in the last few years they have come on every year”.

“It’s hard for the country clubs because in a town the likes of Booters and Evergreen, they always seem to attract bigger players and replace, they always get two or three new players every year and it’s harder for the likes of Thomastown and Highview so it’s important that they keep the guys they have and try and maybe bring in a couple of guys every year”.

Dave said “That’s the only way you are going to compete with the likes of Evergreen and Freebooters because Evergreen are the dominant Team and that’s the benchmark we all have to get to”.
