Thomastown United’s Rory Monks could be looking at a career in the MLS.
The Kilkenny & District League U19 Player of the Year, and Thomastown United U19 Player of the Year makes the near 6,000km trip today from Thomastown to Florence, South Carolina in the US.
There, the former Grennan College student will take up a soccer scholarship at Francis Marion University and will be looking to make his mark on the FMU Patriots mens’ soccer team. Having enjoyed good success in the league this past season, the future is certainly looking bright for Monks.
With interested in and support of the MLS (Major League Soccer) growing rapidly, the opportunity to shine on the US stage is surely a welcome challenge.
“The day has finally come for Rory Monks, He heads off today to Francis Marion University in South Carolina on a Soccer Scholarship. From all in the Club we wish Rory all the best in the US and look forward to welcoming him back in the future once the MLS don’t pick him up before hand. Even at a young age Rory has given so much to Thomastown United and this year alone was crowned the K& DL Under 19 Player of the Year and also grabbed the Club Under 19 Player of the Year which was presented by the Youths Managers Joey Murray and Derek Brennan.”
“Best of luck for the year ahead Rory and we will see you at Christmas. #GoFMUPatriots”, says a post to the Thomastown United Facebook page early on Tuesday.
