Carlow’s senior footballers get a second bite at championship glory this summer with the running of the first-ever Tailteann Cup.
The GAA’s second-tier competition got underway at the weekend with Wicklow seeing off Waterford 3-16 to 1-10 on Saturday while Offaly edged Wexford by a point 3-11 to 2-13 on Sunday, those games in the preliminary stages.
Round 1 proper is this weekend and Carlow have home advantage against Tipperary, a game they’ll be looking to make a good account of themselves in having dropped a loss to the Premier in the league earlier this year.
Carlow will contest the southern section of the Tailteann Cup, this year’s competition divided into north/south groupings.
Throw-in at Netwatch Cullen Park is set for 2pm in a game that you’ll find live here on Scoreline.ie and KCLR. At the same time, Laois host Westmeath in O’Moore Park and Wicklow travel to Offaly as the preliminary round winners face off. Winners of Sunday’s three games will be joined in an open draw by New York for the quarter-final stages.
Tickets are priced €15 with juveniles/U16s free, with no ticket required. Get yours here.
