Tinryland will play in the 2016 senior football championship after escaping with a two point win over Ballinabranna in a high scoring game at Netwatch Carlow Training Centre in Fenagh on Friday evening.

Leading 1-10 to 1-6 at half time, Tinryaland had to survive anxious moments as Ballinabranna drew level 2-11 to 1-14 fourteen minutes in to the last period with excitement running high.

Excellent points from Diarmuid Walsh edged Tinryland out by five points in the closing stages.

Ballinabranna were reduced to fourteen men for the last ten minutes, but they rallied with a late goal and reduced the lead to two points as time ran out in a fine game.

The result secures senior football for Tinryland for 2016 while Ballinabranna will play in the intermediate championship next year.

Final score Tinryland 1-19, Ballinabranna 3-11.
