Tough group ahead for IT Carlow as Fitzgibbon, Sigerson Cup draws are made

The GAA Higher Education Championships

Anything the Champions League can do, the GAA can do better, but at the second time of asking the draws for the 2022 GAA Higher Education Championships – the Fitzgibbon (hurling) and Sigerson (football) cups were made on Tuesday afternoon.

For IT Carlow, the Fitzgibbon Cup has thrown up a few mouth-watering clashes having been drawn alongside Maynooth University, competition favourites DCU and neighbours WIT in Group B.

Defending champions UCC also fare a tough draw alongside NUIG, UCD and Mary I in group A.

Kilkenny’s DJ Carey, coaching the college hurlers, says it’s “a pretty sticky draw” for his side in the 2022 running of the competition.

‘It’s a pretty sticky draw for us’ – @KilkennyCLG legend DJ Carey reacts to his @ITCarlowGAA team being drawn in the same group as @DCUDocEirGAA, @MaynoothUniGAA & @WITGAA for the 2022 @ElectricIreland @HigherEdGAA Fitzgibbon Cup.. pic.twitter.com/XbnlWCwm88
