KCLR are saddened to hear of the passing of Freebooters founding member and Club legend John Doyle.
John’s influence over Freebooters and indeed Kilkenny soccer in general can still be felt today. Contributing to the club as a player, manager, mentor, officer and more importantly a supporter, John has been an integral part of the blues success.
All Kilkenny District league games this weekend have been postponed as a mark of respect.
Speaking with KCLR, Freebooters man Fran grincell spoke about John’s contribution to the club over the years
“He would be a true blue, the love of Freebooter and the Fair Green, you couldn’t break it. Phenomenal man, phenomenal family for the club down throughout the years, great service the family have given to freebooters. Its a huge loss. Sean, Davey, Graham and Diddlers all played a part and still play apart for Freebooters. There has never been a time when a Doyle from the Goal Road hasn’t been involved with freebooters. His contribution has been massive”
Our condolences are with the whole Doyle family in this time
