It’s been an incredible season for the Tullow ladies so far this year.
They’ve blitzed their way through Division Two of the Leinster League and have 14 wins from 14.
However despite being top of the table with a ten point gap back to second place CYM, they will go into a final against them for the chance to be crowned champions.
Barring a freakish set of results in the last two games, Tullow are through to the Final and Alex O Brien says its down to each member of the squad who have been fully committed all season long.
She told KCLR that it was totally worth it training all through the Christmas and New Year period.
“If you don’t train over Christmas, your fitness level drops, everything you kind of get a little bit of rusty”
“We trained the whole way across it, and I don’t think we had even one night off over Christmas, but it was just totally worth it and the girls know that now and at the time, I am thinking god I could be doing other things especially with the girls that have kids, but they have literally given everything”
Here’s the current Leinster League table….
Meanwhile Alex’s brother Sean O Brien is in the thick of the Six Nations with the Irish team.
She thinks that her brother Sean has come back stronger and better from his injury setback and the defeat to Scotland last Saturday is the sort of defeat that happens to every team.,,,,
“He has come back stronger and better hopefully and just a little bit more game time underneath him, but we can’t say he didn’t go out there and give everything he had on Saturday and it proved on the field, he was one of the better players out there, and unfortunately we just couldn’t get the win but I have no doubt they will push on next week and it will be a great game again”
“I mean it happens us all at every level like ourselves, but next week now is a bigger hurdle and that’s all they can focus on I suppose.”
