Women’s rugby is strong in Carlow and Kilkenny this weather with big wins recorded for both Tullow and Kilkenny RFC on Sunday.
Sunday afternoon as Barnhall make the trip to Black Gates for a quarter-final showdown in the Paul Flood Cup but it proved to be fairly one-way traffic for the hosts.
With 30 points to spare, Tullow ran in eight tries against MU Barnhall to take a 48-19 win and punch their ticket to the semi-final where they’ll meet Mullingar at 1pm this coming Sunday. A venue for that game is yet to be determined at the time of writing.
It marked a good weekend for the club with the men’s J1 side progressing to the next stage of the Provincial Towns Plate following a 29-23 win over Wicklow.
In the Women’s Division 5 Cup, Kilkenny recorded a shut-out win over Swords, running in five tries on the way to a 33-0 win at Toberbunny.
Tries from Tina Wright, Lieke Hoban and captain Emer Kelly along with some solid kicking from Ciara Coone made sure of the scores.
They’ll move on to play Navan in the cup semi-final this weekend (Sunday) where the winners will face either Tallaght or De La Salle Palmerston.
