Tullow had a hell of a battle with Naas at the weekend in the opening round of the Provincial Towns Plate competition.

A truckload of tries went in with both sides trading scores before Tullow came out on top 47-43.

Tullow went 14-7 up in the opening exchanges before Naas bit a penalty to bring it to 14-10, however, the local lads powered over for a converted try to bring the game to 21-10.

The local lads were next to score too, opening their lead to 28-10 with a converted try.

Naas was having none of it though, they fought back with a try but missed the conversion, and they scored again after that with a converted try to bring it to 28-22.

It was Naas who crossed the line again to take the lead then with a converted try to bring it to 29-28 to Naas, but Tullow themselves then got in for a try and missed the conversion, Tullow taking the lead 33-29.

Naas then took the lead back with a converted try and Tullow was next to score with a converted try leaving Tullow 40-36 up.

The scoring and the lead traded places again with Naas going over for a converted try close to the end of the game bringing it to 43-40 to Naas, but it was Tullow who had the final say and they scored a converted try with the full-time score 47-43 to Tullow.

Tullow takes on Wicklow away on Sunday, April 3 at 3 pm in the next round.

J2’s

The third round of the second’s cup takes place on Saturday when they travel to Wicklow for a 3 pm kick-off, they beat Ashbourne 40-5 in the second round.
