The opening round of the valuable Kilkenny Track A3 525 may only have served as shadow boxing with very little separating the eight opening-round winners on the clock.

There seems no doubt that better will come from many of them but it did suggest that fans are in for a few weeks of competitive action before the winner is crowned.

The fastest of the eight heat winners was the Murt Leahy trained Chachun Pot Star as he took charge down the back straight from early pacesetter Pookies Seville. The February ’20 son of Dorotas Wildcat displayed fine pace to stretch clear before going on to score by two lengths in 29.32.

There was plenty to like about Lemon Tossy as he went next fastest. Tom Lennon’s son of Over Limit was only third into the back straight, but he displayed fine pace and determination to move to the front at the final bend. From there he eased clear to beat Myahs Magic by three and a half lengths in 29.33.

Both Hartford Master and Beaming Numen made virtually all in the winners of their respective heats to the clock and identical 29.41.

Only a couple of spots separated Warzone Lil, Dysert Sonia, Rathduff Warrior, and Southwind Garbo on the clock.   Both Warzone Lil and Rathduff Warrior finished fast to win in 29.56, while Dysert Sonia and Southwind Garbo both posted 29.58.
