Tullow Rugby Club are through to the second round of the 2019 Provincial Towns Cup even before a ball has been kicked.

The 2017 champions announced on Friday night that first round opponents Mullingar have withdrawn from the competition.

“Unfortunately Mullingar have conceded the Provincial Town’s Cup game scheduled for this Sunday”, read a club statement.

“Our lads will have to wait and see who they’ll face in Round 2 in the draw due to take place in Carlow Rugby Club on Sunday after Carlows first round game.”

“So now there’s ONE big game in our club this weekend, come out and support your ladies team when they take on Galwegians in the quarter final of AIL Cup.”

“It’s a huge achievement for this team and they would appreciate your support, you’ll be the difference.”

Oak Park plays host to a local derby between Kilkenny and Carlow.

Carlow head coach Steve Ashmore previously guided Kilkenny to Division 1B promotion and consecutive Towns Cup Final appearances.
