The longer the season goes, the more you start running out of things to say about Carlow’s New Oak Boys.
Having scored a belter against Crettyard to help land this year’s KCLR Carlow Shield on Thursday night, Cody Mulhall was back on the scoresheet on Sunday as New Oak Boys put four past Crettyard, away from home, to retain the Nationalist Premier Division title.
Sure, it needed a little help on the way to goal but it was always going in. You can see his cracker as part of a hat-trick that landed the KCLR Carlow Shield here.
Set pieces have certainly played a big part in success this year with New Oak’s opener coming from a well-drilled free-kick routine .
Still, with games to spare, New Oak Boys have managed to take this year’s title with just 13 games played of 16 on offer, winning all 13 to date. They have the tightest defence in the league, having shipped just five goals with Crettyard nearest to them having 19. They also lead the goalscoring charts with 58 to date, 12 clear of second-placed St. Pat’s Boys.
Needless to say, it may take something special next season to stop the New Oak train in its tracks.
