Drop goals in rugby can be a thing of beauty.
Just ask Ronan O’Gara how it felt to ping one over at the death against Wales to seal the 2009 Six Nations for Ireland. While the setting for this effort from Kilkenny man Peter Lydon may not have been as dramatic, there was only one destination for this ball the second it left his boot.
Lydon, seen wearing number 22 for Rouen Normandie, ultimately helped seal an 18-17 victory over eight-placed Colomiers and earn his side a first win in their last five Pro D2 games. His side currently lie 12th, with 11 wins from 28 games this season. The Dutch-born Kilkenny man is a previous Kilkenny RFC youths player with career stints also at Stade Francis and London Scottish before taking up with Rouen in 2020. He has also represented Netherlands at international level.
Oh, and in just in case you had forgotten about that glorious moment in 2009, here you go.
