DJ Careys IT Carlow men managed to successfully top their group in the Fitzgibbon Cup on Wednesday night.
Two good wins against Maynooth and Waterford IT put them in good stead ahead of their away clash with DCU. That game finished as a draw, with DCU clawing back a 6 point lead.
UCC, Group A runners-up, awaits IT Carlow next Wednesday night. Due to topping their group IT Carlow will have the home-field advantage, something they will also have if they make it all the way to the final.
There are high hopes for the side, especially with Eoin Cody still sitting out as he awaits Shamrocks All Ireland match-up with Ballygunnar. Hurling great and manager DJ Carey was quite happy when he spoke to KCLR after the game;
“It is great, we are delighted. the draw was tough and the teams in it are all good.”
“When you are setting out at the start of the year you want to get out of the group. Then try and top the group and be in a quarter-final, then have a home quarter-final. We are where we want to be at the moment.”
“We have a few guys missing, we will be hoping to have them back for next Wednesday.”
