Kilkenny secured their first season victory in a hard-fought battle against Cork at Supervalu Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday evening.
The Cats ultimately prevailed with a narrow 1-17 to 0-21 win in what proved to be a thrilling encounter, despite taking an early lead by nine points.
After the match, Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng shared his thoughts on the intense contest. Lyng expressed satisfaction with his team’s ability to hold on for the crucial two points, acknowledging the fine line between success and defeat. “I suppose we were hanging on at the end of it, if you like. We had a few chances maybe to finish it off, and Cork had a number of chances as well. Overall, very happy with the effort,” Lyng stated.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Lyng provided a balanced assessment, recognizing moments of brilliance alongside challenging periods. “The performance was decent; at times, we looked very good, and at times, we found life hard out there. We knew Cork was going to come at us hard, so I think just to get the result, I’m very happy. I would have taken that,” he added.
Looking ahead, Kilkenny now sets its sights on the next challenge—a clash with Offaly scheduled for Sunday, February 25th. As the team basks in the glow of their recent victory, the focus shifts to maintaining momentum and building on the positives observed during the Cork encounter.
