Saturday promises a thrilling day in the St. Canice’s Credit Union Senior League, with the spotlight firmly on Thomastown as they take on Glenmore at 12pm.

Thomastown’s remarkable performance so far has been the talk of Kilkenny hurling, with manager Noel Doherty expressing immense pride in his team’s undefeated run.

Doherty, who has led Thomastown through a historic campaign last year, couldn’t hide his delight as he reflected on the club’s resurgence. “Obviously, I’m delighted. The club hasn’t been up here in 35 years,” he said, emphasizing the significance of their achievement. “I’m delighted with the way they acquitted themselves over the first three matches—three tough oppositions by all accounts.”

Thomastown’s journey through the league has been marked by solid performances, but it was their victory against Tullaroan that truly stood out. “I thought the performance was solid in all three games, but especially against Tullaroan, they took it to another level,” Doherty noted, praising his players for their resilience under pressure.

Injuries have tested Thomastown’s depth, but Doherty’s focus on developing the squad over the past 18 months has paid off. “We were under pressure with a few guys picking up knocks. This championship is going to test your panel, and we’ve been working on our panel and putting a lot of emphasis on it over the last 18 months,” he explained. “They’ve got their chances, and when they got their chances, they took them well. We had no fear about putting them in there today, and I’m very happy with their performance.”

As Thomastown prepares to face Glenmore, the confidence within the squad is palpable. A victory on Saturday would further solidify their position as one of the teams to beat in this year’s Senior League.

Following the Thomastown-Glenmore clash, the action continues throughout the day with Dicksboro taking on Bennettsbridge at 2pm, James Stephens facing Tullaroan at 4pm, and a Group B showdown between Mullinavat and Ballyhale Shamrocks at 5:30pm.

But for Thomastown, all eyes are on the next hurdle. With Noel Doherty at the helm, they are poised to continue their impressive run and prove that their return to the top tier is no fluke. Tune in to KCLR for live coverage of this and all the day’s games, as the Senior League heats up.
