Bennettsbridge are on the cusp of reaching the St. Canice’s Credit Union Kilkenny Senior League Final, following a hard-fought 2-17 to 0-19 victory over Dicksboro last Saturday.
This win sets up a crucial clash against Tullaroan this Saturday at 2 PM in Muckalee, where a victory could secure Bennettsbridge a spot in the league final.
After last Saturday’s win over Dicksboro, Bennettsbridge forward Jason Cleere spoke to KCLR match commentator Paul Jenkins about the team’s goals.
“We’re safe anyway, that’s the main thing. Tullaroan are obviously a big battle, but we want to win every match we can and get to a league final because I know it’s a very hectic schedule, match on match week on week. So to get to a league final will give us a bit of a breather. So it’s a very important match next week,” Cleere said.
Cleere emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum as they head into the championship. “We target the league every year, every match there to be won. We’re not the sort of team that can just turn it on when we want. So we need a good bit of momentum, a good bit of form, coming into the championship. It did well for us last year where we played well during the league, and we had a good run at it, so we’re hoping to do the same again.”
