“We will be flying and raring” – Sean Bambrick itching for Carlows clash with Westmeath

Carlow are raring to go for the next round of the Tailteann Cup, that is according to Seanie Bambrick anyway

The Barrowsiders take on Westmeath at Netwatch Cullen Park this weekend in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Cup.

Speaking to Scoreline the Old Leighlin man was buzzing for the encounter despite the short turnaround.

“We were disappointed with how we finished off in the league, with very few points on the table. Everyone was writing us off coming into this game.”

“We were buzzing in training and were flying fit, so we were up for the game and we showed it out there by coming away with the win.”

“We are just delighted with that, we move onto the quarters now, and we will be up for that aswell , despite the short turn around we will be flying and raring.”

You would have to go back to 1985 for the 99th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship for Carlow’s last championship win over Westmeath. The Barrowsiders won 3-11 to 1-04 on the day before falling to Laois in the next round of the Leinster championship.

The Championship last meeting occurring in 2013 where Westmeath ran out convincing winners on the day. Carlow captain and Kilbride man was on the field that day, scoring two points from frees.
