Wexford GAA has called for a retraction of comments made by Clare hurling manager Brian Lohan.
The Banner boss claimed the manner in which he found out two of his players were close contacts to Wexford’s pair of positive COVID-19 cases was “unusual”.
Wexford has described Lohan’s comments as “outrageous” and “quite hurtful to the players involved”.
The Clare boss said they were contacted by the H-S-E to say that two of the Wexford players had nominated two of his players as close contacts,
However, Wexford GAA says that is factually incorrect.
Yesterday’s Allianz Hurling League meeting between Kilkenny and Wexford was called off.
The Wexford County Board issued the following statement:
Wexford GAA wish to address the comments made by Clare Senior Hurling Manager Brian Lohan on Sunday May 23rd. The suggestion made that members of Wexford GAA had somehow nominated Clare players as close contacts is factually incorrect. Wexford GAA have again spoken to HSE South East this morning and this position can be independently verified by HSE. Wexford GAA will continue to work through the protocols as requested by HSE.
