In a weekend filled with live sports action on KCLR, Carlow’s football team, led by manager Niall Carew, finds themselves on a break from the field after a recent setback.
Despite three live games scheduled on KCLR across hurling and camogie, Carlow’s clash next weekend with Longford has been thrust into the spotlight as the side looks to rectify their recent loss to Wexford.
Carew’s Carlow side experienced a significant setback in their pursuit of promotion from Division 4 of the Allianz National Football League. The defeat unfolded at Netwatch Cullen Park, where Wexford seized control in the final 10 minutes to secure a convincing 1-14 to 0-07 victory.
The loss puts Carlow, Wexford, Longford, and Leitrim all on equal footing with 6 points each and two games remaining. The competition for second place in Division 4 is fierce, as the team that claims this spot will earn promotion to Division 3.
In response to the recent defeat, Niall Carew expressed the need to regroup ahead of the crucial upcoming match against Longford. He emphasized the importance of addressing the shortcomings observed in the Wexford encounter, stating, “This was when you don’t do yourself justice, that’s always more nagging. You question everything of yourself. We all look at ourselves individually and collectively, and we have two weeks now to dust ourselves down and get back up on the horse for the Longford game.”
Carlow’s upcoming game against Longford has been rescheduled and will now take place at 3 pm on Saturday, the 16th, instead of the initially planned Sunday fixture on the 17th. As Carlow strives for redemption, the upcoming match against Longford becomes a critical juncture in their pursuit of promotion, and Carew is keen on rectifying the team’s course in this pivotal encounter.
