Michael Fennelly: “You would like to see maybe more competitive games” in Leinster Championship

Kilkenny Senior Hurlers are back in action this weekend after being off last weekend.

They welcome Dublin to UPMC Nowlan Park for round four of the Leinster Championship after winning two previous rounds and drawing against Galway. The Dubs meanwhile have the same record after an opening round draw with Antrim, Manager Micheál Donoghue oversaw victories over Wexford and Westmeath.

Now we caught up with eight-time All Ireland Winner Michael Fennally to get his thoughts on the game and he alluded to concerns about the competitiveness of opponents Kilkenny has been facing in the provincial championship;

“And I think a lot of those guys now have another year under the belt and, you’d be hoping that we can push a bit further this year in terms of contending for an All Ireland. But it was first and foremost is qualifying in the round Robin and getting through to answer the Leinster final. That will be Derek’s main goal and see what happens from there. “

“I’m happy from what I’ve seen, obviously those games there were Kilkenny are probably hot favorites going into and you would like to see maybe more competitive games. Competitive games will bring that team on further, so that’s something I suppose that might concern me a small bit.”

You can tune in Sunday at 4 pm to hear the full interview with the Shamrocks man along with all the post-match reaction of Kilkenny versus Dublin. That game throws-in Saturday with coverage starting on KCLR from half-five.
