Crettyard United manager Patrick Brennan is expecting a serious challenge from Parkville United in Saturday’s Carlow Cup Final despite the contrast in finishing positions in the Premier Division.
Speaking to KCLR, Patrick says Parkville are not to be underestimated.
“Look I suppose everybody looking at the table in the wind-up of the season, they are going to have us as hot favourites. I wouldn’t be taking a Parkville Team in a Cup Final very lightly now by any stretch of the imagination, they have a very good Youths Team there I believe.
“They have been using a couple of the younger lads there towards the back end of the season as well so everybody is going to turnaround and say that Crettyard should be high favourites to win the game, but I wouldn’t be taking them too lightly.
“They have absolutely nothing to lose in that regard so I would expect Parkville to bring a big challenge,” said Brennan.
Meanwhile Parkville United manager Des Clarke says they won’t be in anyway overawed by the challenge of Crettyard United.
Speaking to KCLR, Des says they are looking forward to testing themselves against Carlow’s best.
“We are not going out to be the whipping boys but we are not going out to sit back either. Any person that is involved in football will know their is a gap (between the sides) at the moment.
There’ll be moments in this game where our lads will be able to keep the ball and they will create and cause Crettyard problems.
“They are just going to fall short personally, and you will see the difference in age there but like there will be lots of character in the group and really the result for me personally isn’t going to be a massive thing at the weekend.
“The guys who have played have got a couple of trophies under their belts and this is going to be a new experience for them and will probably even bring them down to earth,” said Clarke.
The game takes place at 3pm at The Meadows in Graiguecullen on Saturday.
