The GAA/GPA have announced the Player of the Month Award winners for May and June. Conor Lehane (Cork) and Paul Broderick (Carlow) have been named the GAA/GPA Players of the Month for May in hurling and football respectively.
For the following month, Mark Coleman (Cork) and Daniel Flynn (Kildare) have been named the GAA/GPA Players of the Month for June. All four players were selected by their fellow inter-county players following outstanding displays in this year’s championship.
Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Aogán Ó Fearghail said:
“What a summer it has been to date for both of our championships and our players in both codes deserve all the accolades they get for the quality of the matches that have been played up to this point.
“Cork’s superb 2017 championship campaign is underlined by the performances of two of their players – Conor Lehane and Mark Coleman. The Rebels’ wins over Tipperary, Waterford and Clare have already made it a campaign to remember and I don’t believe they will be satisfied with Munster honours alone.
“Carlow’s performances in Leinster and in the qualifiers was another stand out story for championship 2017 and I am delighted that players across the country have acknowledged this by choosing Paul Broderick for the July football award.
“Finally, Kildare may have missed out on Leinster honours but their march to the provincial decider – powered in no small part by Daniel Flynn, was hugely impressive and they too have other goals ahead to focus on.
“Well done to all of our winners and best of luck with both your club and county commitments for the remainder of the year,” he said.
Speaking about the Award winners, Dermot Earley, Chief Executive of the GPA said:
“Congratulations to Paul and Conor on being recognised by their fellow players for their outstanding contributions in May. It’s fitting that Carlow’s remarkable championship journey is rewarded with Paul leading the way in attack during their upset of Wexford, while Conor has been central to the Cork hurlers’ resurgence and his flawless 10-point haul helped dethrone Munster rivals Tipperary in a thrilling provincial quarter-final.
Well done also to Mark and Daniel who deservedly scooped the June awards. Mark has been a revelation since bursting into the Cork senior side this summer and gave a masterclass against Waterford before going one better against Clare as they claimed Munster honours.
June was an outstanding month for Kildare as they booked their Leinster final place and Daniel’s scoring displays in their defeats of Laois and Meath had every GAA fan talking. Well done to all four award winners,” he said.
