Champion national hunt trainer Willie Mullins has revealed he has one last plan for Grade One-winning hurdler Airlie Beach ahead of her impending retirement.
The mare has won seven of her 12 starts and recorded her greatest ever day on a racecourse when, ridden by Danny Mullins, she won the Royal Bond Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse.
The Supreme Racing Syndicate-owned mare ran a cracking race in the Galway Hurdle on Thursday to finish third, and Mullins has revealed that he is hopeful the seven-year-old can win on the Flat before becoming a successful broodmare.
Mullins said: “She ran a smashing race [on Thursday]. She’s in foal to Mount Nelson and we have only another couple of weeks left with her. We might try to win a Flat maiden.”
